What's the catch? There is none. Simply download it free of charge and use it for as long as you want. This great free Office suite has impressed millions of people who now use it every day.


As an NC State student, faculty or staff member, you can download and install a free copy of the full MS Office suite (includes Word, Excel and PowerPoint), and you also have access to the cloud versions of these products (Office 365).


Office Mobile for iPad and iPhone includes your favorite Office apps, like Word for iPad/iPhone, Excel for iPad/iPhone, and PowerPoint for iPad/iPhone. The apps are available to download for free, and with applicable plans, you can create and edit documents on your iPad or iPhone. Office Mobile for Android includes your favorite Office apps, like Word for Android, Excel for Android, and PowerPoint for Android. Office Mobile for Windows Phone includes your favorite Office apps, like Word for Windows Phone, Excel for Windows Phone, and PowerPoint for Windows Phone. The apps are available to download for free, and with applicable plans, you can create and edit documents on your Windows Phone. A subscription to Office 365 (aka Office 2016) is free for current students, for installation on up to five devices (computers, tablets, phones). This package includes the MS Word and Powerpoint students need for classes. You can register and download the installer online here.


Note that Microsoft provides online versions of MS Office which run inside a web browser and thus require an Internet connection. As long as you are associated with UTC, you are also entitled to download and install the "full" version of MS Office. You can either log into portal.office.com and click the INSTALL OFFICE button at the upper right or (unless they have changed it) use the link below:


Google Docs allows you to create, collaborate and share documents, spreadsheets, presentations, drawings and even forms. Google Docs is packed with features, which can be further extended with various add-ons. While it will automatically save the file online and store it there, you can also have the documents published as a web page, downloaded or emailed as an attachment in Word, ODT, PDF, plain text or RTF formats. You can invite collaborators to work on the document with you or only allow others to view it without the ability to edit. And if you are apprehensive of having to depend on the Internet connection for document processing, don't worry. You can enable Google Docs offline access and keep editing your documents even when you are disconnected from Internet. All it takes is a free Google account.


Some people are reluctant to cut the ties to their local computer and put all their work and business documents online. If you're one of them and don't want to rely on an Internet connection, here are several free word processing applications to round out our list. These you can download and install on your local computer. Take advantage of all the desktop features of MS Word without the hefty price tag!


Whether you are looking for a free locally installed Microsoft Word alternative or an online one for easier collaboration and online file storage, there are many available. The ten that are covered in this article are only the tip of the proverbial iceberg, but should give you a good starting point. The obvious giants in the arena are Google Docs and Openoffice.org which are probably also the most popular, though Zoho does offer a wider selection of applications. In the end, the one that best suits you will be the one that offers the features you need the most.


Office 365 ProPlus is a full version of the MS Office Suite. CSU currently offers up to 5 free downloads of the Office product for personal use. This product has the same features and functionality as the standard versions of MS Office, it is not a web-based version of Office. Use this version on documents that are filed on the device or that are attachments within an email.


To download MS Office to your personal device, if eligible, sign into your email account via a supported browser, open the APP Launcher and select Office 365. This will open a new page where you will find the option to install office. Follow the directions listed and if prompted to activate Microsoft Office, you will be requested to enter your email address. Enter it as your CSUID@..... and your CampusNet password.


The ability to download this product is restricted to personal devices only. Should you wish to have the latest version of Microsoft Office loaded onto your office computer, or other CSU owned device, please contact the IS&T Help Desk at 216-687-5050.

Microsoft 365 products are available to active UM System faculty, staff and students. Through the Microsoft Home Use Program, most faculty and staff are eligible to download, install, and use Microsoft Office 365 ProPlus applications on up to 5 personal desktop and laptop computers, free of charge. Microsoft 365 is available to all current students, faculty and staff at Binghamton University. This software is free of charge and is available for download on personal computers and devices. Microsoft Office 365 is not available to Binghamton University volunteers (basic), non-emertitus retirees, applicants, or alumni.
